Dear Friends,
Fresh Access Bucks, a program of Feeding Florida, makes fresh local produce more affordable and accessible to low income families while supporting Florida’s farmers and enhancing our local economies. By providing a one-to-one match for Florida grown fruits and vegetables we increase the purchasing power of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants. A SNAP cardholder who spends $40 of their SNAP benefits at any of our 51 participating markets receives an additional $40 to purchase fresh, local produce.
By incentivizing purchases from local growers, we encourage engagement between farmers and low income community members. In response to increased sales, farmers expand acreage in production, diversify products and add additional hoop houses or greenhouses. For every $100 spend at farmer’s markets, $62 stays in the local economy and $99 stays in the state. By creating a more vibrant local economy, we are working to fight poverty and stop hunger at its source.
“It makes a big difference to me knowing my produce is going to someone who needs it.” – Siembra Farm, Gainesville
Since its inception, Fresh Access Bucks has:
- Generated over $1.3 million in healthy food purchases for over 569 Florida farmers
- Over 43,230 Federal Benefit Transactions (SNAP & WIC/Senior FMNP)
- Over 20,813 New Market Shoppers
- 90% of incentive program consumers report increasing their consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Our vision starts with a healthier future for all Floridians. It also starts with you.
Your generous donation of (amount and frequency) will directly support access to healthy, Florida grown fruits and vegetables by increasing our marketing and outreach capacity to reach more SNAP recipients in their communities and allowing us to add more participating farmers markets throughout the state.
We thank you for your consideration of our request and look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
